How did you decide which country/program to study abroad in?
I had the opportunity to take part in a one-month study abroad program in Athens, Greece. This was presented to me through the O'Neill school of Public and Environmental Affairs but more specifically through their living learning center.
What were you excited about and/or nervous about before your program?
I was primarily excited about the fact that I would be able to study abroad with all my friends. Since this was through the LLC, I knew everyone that would be going to Greece prior to arriving in the country. The thing I was ultimately nervous about the most was the overall idea of traveling abroad, since this was my first international trip.
What was your favorite place that you traveled to or an activity you did while abroad?
My personal favorite place I traveled to would be the island of Aegina. My favorite part had to have been exploring all the little shops on the island/ streets and talking to the island locals. Majority of them have never been to the states so they were asking so many questions.
Could you articulate one personal/professional/academic goal you achieved while abroad?
A personal goal of mine has always been to try and meet professionals all over the world and hear their thoughts about the US and their overall governmental system. While in Greece I was actually able to meet with the US ambassador and talk about refugee integration in Greece and Compare it to the US.
What advice would you like to give to future study abroad students?
I would warn people to not stress out about money while abroad. While in Greece I was aware of the money I was spending but also lived by the motto, you can always make money back not memories. You don't want to come back from your study abroad wishing you did more.
