How did you decide which country/program to study abroad in?
I chose to study abroad in Italy because it was the best option to keep me on track to graduate on time. The program in Italy aligned perfectly with my academic goals and provided the necessary credits for my degree, making it the most practical and beneficial choice for my studies. Plus, the opportunity to experience Italy’s rich culture and history was an added bonus.
What were you excited about and/or nervous about before your program?
Before my program in Italy, I was really excited about immersing myself in a new culture, exploring historic cities, and experiencing Italian cuisine firsthand. I looked forward to meeting new people and gaining a global perspective on my studies. At the same time, I felt a little nervous about navigating a new country, adapting to a different academic environment, and being away from home for an extended period. However, I knew that stepping out of my comfort zone would be a valuable and rewarding experience.
What was your favorite place that you traveled to or an activity you did while abroad?
One of my favorite experiences while studying abroad was traveling to Barcelona. The city's vibrant atmosphere, stunning architecture, and lively culture made it unforgettable. I especially loved trying new foods – from tapas to tacos – and exploring the local markets. It also made me feel more at home since I understood the language better compared to Italy. It was comforting to have that sense of familiarity.
What advice would you like to give to future study abroad students?
My advice to future study abroad students is to go in with an open heart and a flexible mindset. Things won’t always go as planned, and that’s part of the adventure. Be proactive about making connections – talk to locals, join student groups, and say yes to experiences that push you beyond your usual routine. Also, don’t underestimate the small moments – a quiet café, a new route to class, or a conversation with a stranger can become some of your favorite memories. Trust yourself, stay curious, and remember that growth often comes from the unexpected. Enjoy every moment – it goes by faster than you think!
