How did you decide which country/program to study abroad in?
I took into account my major credits, location, and price.
What were you excited about and/or nervous about before your program?
I was nervous about the workload of the course but really excited to experience a new culture and environment.
What was your favorite place that you traveled to or an activity you did while abroad?
I love everyday so it’s hard to pick one specific time that I enjoyed. I would say one of the highlights of the visit was El Toledo Coffee Farm.
How do you think the intersections of your identities and values impacted your study abroad experience? Do you have any tips to share with future study abroad students?
I’m a very observant person. This made the trip really enjoyable because I felt like I was learning and experiencing something almost every minute. The bus rides were great because I could look out of the window and see more than what the itinerary had planned. The only tips I would give future study abroad students is to enjoy every second while they can. Time really goes by fast on these trips so it’s best to get the most out of it by keeping a positive and adaptive mindset.
Could you articulate one personal/professional/academic goal you achieved while abroad?
While abroad I was able to rekindle my love for my major. I felt like I was stuck before the trip and going down the wrong path. This trip really helped me appreciate what I was learning and understand that my major is right for me. I loved learning about the animals, plants, communities, culture, and the policy. After this trip I would love to work with or in a different country once I graduate.
What advice would you like to give to future study abroad students?
Take every opportunity you can. In order to get the most out of the trip you have to be open to trying new things, talking to new people, and putting aside most of your social fears.
