How did you decide which country/program to study abroad in?
I decided to study in Barcelona for many reasons. One is that I wanted to improve my Spanish proficiency. Another reason I chose to study abroad in Barcelona was because of the beautiful beaches and great food. Lastly, Spain is a relatively cheap country compared to others.
What were you excited about and/or nervous about before your program?
I was excited to travel to different countries and explore a part of the world I had never been to. However, I was nervous about living in a big city. However, I had friends with me that made the experience very enjoyable.
What was your favorite place that you traveled to or an activity you did while abroad?
Choosing just one place is very hard, but I would say Amsterdam. I loved the vibe of the city and just how nice everyone was. The food was great and I went to the Van Gogh Museum! My favorite activity was skydiving in the Swiss Alps!
How do you think the intersections of your identities and values impacted your study abroad experience? Do you have any tips to share with future study abroad students?
The intersection of my identity and values positively impacted my study-abroad experience. For example, I am Mexican, and having a little Spanish under my belt which made communication easier. The only tip I have is to get out there and start exploring!
Could you articulate one personal/professional/academic goal you achieved while abroad?
While I was abroad, I learned to speak Spanish at a moderate level and can hold conversations.
What advice would you like to give to future study abroad students?
Go abroad and enjoy it! I miss it already!
