How did you decide which country/program to study abroad in?
For me, financial aid was a big factor for me. A couple programs let you take an 8 week course during the spring and go abroad during the summer. This was the best option for me financially.
What were you excited about and/or nervous about before your program?
I was so excited to explore a new culture and see things that I have only read in textbooks with my own eyes. I was nervous about traveling without my family, but being with my classmates relieved that stress.
What was your favorite place that you traveled to or an activity you did while abroad?
My favorite place that I traveled to in London was going to Kew Gardens and taking boat tours with my classmates.
How do you think the intersections of your identities and values impacted your study abroad experience? Do you have any tips to share with future study abroad students?
Keep an open mindset! I think that my willingness to learn a different culture and familiarize myself with a new setting helped me a lot. I was not afraid to try new things, because I knew being in a new country meant that people thought and behaved differently.
Could you articulate one personal/professional/academic goal you achieved while abroad?
A personal goal that I achieved while abroad is independence. It is scary to travel and be in a new and unfamiliar place. I am not someone who is afraid to ask questions so even navigating the Tube public transportation was something that I could handle.
What advice would you like to give to future study abroad students?
Do not be afraid to ask for help. It is okay not to know and many people are willing to give you new information.
