How did you decide which country/program to study abroad in?
I decided to study in Denmark because they were one of the few countries offering Neuroscience courses. Also, I've always wanted to go to Denmark because it is the happiest country in the world, so it worked out really well.
What were you excited about and/or nervous about before your program?
I was nervous about living in a new country alone for the first time. However, that was also the thing that made me excited because I wanted to be independent and experience life alone.
What was your favorite place that you traveled to or an activity you did while abroad?
There were too many things that I loved during my trip to Denmark, but one of my favorites was a trip to Møns Klint. There were beautiful white cliffs and a stone beach.
Do you have any tips to share with future study abroad students?
I think being an open-minded and accepting person is the most important thing for a student studying abroad. Obviously, in other countries, traditions, cultures, etc are very different than the US, and you have to be understanding and willing to learn their culture if you want to fit in and enjoy your time there.
What advice would you like to give to future study abroad students?
The biggest piece of advice I would give to future study abroad students is: prepare well and be open-minded. Do not procrastinate packing, because there are a lot of different things that you will need, and other countries can be much more expensive than the US. I already explained the openmindedness aspect above.
What do you wish you knew before you studied abroad?
I wish I kept a mental track of the time and things that I did. The days blended together sometimes, and before I knew it, the six weeks were over. I experienced a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it, but I wish I took the time to debrief each day to help consolidate it better, so that the time did not fly by.
